cant believe bryce lawrence was ranked top tri nations ref....hes weak

  1. 99% of kiwis see aussie as our threat. 100% see a bad call as our threat. With good officiating no one in nz is worried bout the boks at all. Dont read the crap that supersport writes on their site, building up saffers confidence by saying nz see the boks as their biggest threat. Crap. Its aussie that scares us.

  2. international refs need to be more accountable. In the republic you had 1 cheating jarpy tmo & 1 brainless irish referee who completely chose to disregard the rules.

you had a tmo who completely ignored OR didnt know the rules. When muliaina stole the ball from ashley cooper even every aussie commentator was gobsmacked that it wasnt a NZ 22m dropout. The following 5m aussie scrum resulted in aussie's first try & a 10-il lead.

Referees are deciding close games. Our sport deserves better & referees at this level need to be held accountable. Mediocrity breeds mediocrity.

  3. interesting to see people keep bringing up this stat of "the trinations winner has never gone on to win the wc"...doesnt hold a lot of water when the wc is but 24yrs old. Problem is then the journalists jump on it then every moron and his dog repeat everything they read.

Aussie won the trinations but lets remember they were the only team to field their top lineup every wk...was important for them as they really had to build confidence after some mediocre performances the last seasons. They certainly talked themselves up before matches this trinations but seems was more for their own benefit. NZers stopped listening to spouting aussies when my dad was a kid.

The boks didnt field their top XV during the away leg for 2 reasons. Their old brigade needed a bbreak...that was clear. Add to that de villiers & co knew damn well that a couple of hidings dished out to their 1st stringers only weeks out from the world cup would have been very damaging indeed.

And as with the boks, some of the ABs were seriously in need of a break, not least the crusaders boys who have been real globetrotters this yr to date.

should have added to that the trinations started in 96...so thats the 99, 03 & 07 cup. Telling stats? Anything to fill a newspaper, & proof that journalists are on a par with today's international referees.

Anyone notice dickinson isnt even a touchjudge this world cup? Anyway, with so many games theres bound to be some huge reffing fuck ups, which time will gloss over.

  5. nice to see the english team visiting chch. Some kind words & johnsons doing a great PR job for the poms in nz. Much better than woodward & alistair whatshisname...alistair?

  6. southern defence is too hard. Most northerners i know admit this. SH defence has become increasingly more physical season by season. You may catch the boks or aussie on an off day.....but none of you in the north have the goods to worry the ABs at home in nz

  7. i actually see a real irony in the choker calling. That basically ridicules every other rugby playing nation, because people worldwide expect the ABs to win. Any other time the opposing country (see the poms, taffs & boks) talk themself up, but when the ABs get thrown out of the cup for some other malign reason all of a sudden they are chokers. The ABs have never choked in a world cup match. One ignorant journalist said it once, the sheep ran with it. Long as you went & bought their paper then everyone's happy.

ABs are always favs so anytime they lose is an upset. We could lose 3 on the trot then send a 2nd string team overseas & still be favourites. This cup no different. Top lineup loses to aussie in last match before cup yet the cup is still being called a 1 horse race. Not by kiwis....but bby fans & press internationally.

  9. for those who dont realise lomu called sonny bill out in the fight for life, charity boxing fights, willaims turned it down. the saga continues...

"For him to say I had no credibility and then fight someone on the sick (Williams ended up fighting Tongan Alipate Liava'a who, it transpired, was on sickness benefits at the time), well that's one sure way of ****** me off. I want to get him in the boxing ring one day.

"If he steps in the ring with me he will do so at his peril. I might not be a boxer as such but I know the sport and I can fight. If you hit me, I will hit you back so hard you will wish you hadn't.

  11. the whole set up is a joke at moment. Cant believe the calamitous comedy that is rugby officiating is being glossed over. You have to be totally ignorant of the sport not to see it. Ironic that the reffing order is to clamp down on scrums & the ruck area when they are the 2 parts that refs have shown they have abbsolutely no clue whatsoever. If bryce lawrence is regarded the top trinations ref what does that tell us about the standard of refereeing?

  12. not too bad today's officiating but still some grey areas where decisions are going either way. Good to see the smaller nations standing up. 1 decision the other way could have given the welsh a victory(for instance one of the times that brussow was on both knees & challenging for the ball).

Was Wales' game but if you are going to miss a few kickable penalties and miss a sitter dropgoal its your own fault. Still,....not a great day when the team playing all the rugby come out on the wrong side of the ledger & the negative team get the spoils. Terrific games from roberts, priestland(great temperament despite the crucial missed dropgoal & great ploy by gatland to show the confidence to play him in a game of this stature) & philips, the welsh pack, the loose trio in particular with warburton huge. A great low driving game with superb & urgent cleanouts deserved to take the win from the boks, brussow completely negated but for 1 or 2 turnovers. The only south african i could compliment is danie rossouw. Boks in big trouble if matfield cant get back on the field, will be 1st 3 locks out.

Cant understand the hype over aussie, was still a weak 1st 40 and despite a scoring blitz over 15mins or so was still only 26pts in the 2nd half vs italy. Cooper showed his frailties as did the aussie scrum.

  13. gatland partly responsible for the loss. Despite the tripe coming from the south african camp that "experience got us through", completely ignoring the fact that wales threw the game away, gatland should have subbed some fatties minutes before that hougaard try, they were down to a walk.

Interesting to hear that fran steyn said that controversial penalty went over. Yet more imcompetence.

  15. interesting the discussion surrounding the ball, especially after wilko had his worst ever kick return but when in the 1st 15mins of namibia fiji namibia have 3 dropgoals & a 55m penalty & fiji a sideline conversion (5 kicks from 5) seems ball is fine.

  16. incredible kiwi support for italy in their australian game. Thank you quade cooper i imagine.

  17. russia too many mistakes to deserve victory but not far from taking it. Clever showing he has zero self control during the meaningless fracas with byrne then taking it a step further with his late, no arms & clearly malicious shoulder on the flying russian winger, with time winding down & a 7pt lead. Not good enough for a professional player or international captain.

  18. we seriously have to get rid of our commentators...not sure how but how embarrassing.

"suniula...sounds like an american samoan law firm" & "clever...twisting & turning...if he was at the rodeo you'd ride him"....seriously wtf? you wouldnt have even known mexted was there! & hes the king of moronic comments.

  19. would be nice to even things up on the playing schedule as the tier 2 nations have it tough. While the top nations basically get 6 or 7days between games the lesser nations are playing 2 games in 4 days at times. That makes it tough all round, from players to the coach. You want to put on a good showing vs the heavyweights(plus give your regulars the chance of a lifetime to test themselves against the best) but at the same time you want to beat your fellow "minnows". You saw the problems tonga had....they were positive, wanted to give themselves a shot at the 1/4s, had to back themselves vs france and as a result sent out a 2nd string team vs canada. Result, a canadian victory.

The tier 2 are doing them selves proud, now lets give them a fair go.

  20. Boks vs Fiji i actually saw a kicking game that fiji were just hopeless at defending against. They werent even great pressuring kicks. While the boks looked ok fiji looked totally dysfunctional and a shadow of themselves. 50pts on a south pacific island is expected in nz. Nothing for the boks to get too excited about.

Samoa vs wales could have gone either way....after the welsh's great effort vs south africa they were very nearly on their way home! A few 50/50 decisions the other way and it could have been the case. In the last minutes when samoa was attacking the welsh line, the welsh turnover should have, in my view, been a samoan penalty. Adam jones was off his feet and never released.

Seems aussie or the boks will be knocking each other out in the 1/4s.

  21. I'm sure anyone who saw the exploits of georgia in 2003 was an instant fan, much like this time round. On another day with a decent kicking performance & a capable referee(even the english commentators said kaplan was weak) Georgia could have made history. For 70mins they were clearly the better team. For all the infringing England could have should have had 5 or 6 yellow cards.
Was the same crap in the 1st 30mins vs Argentina. If they dont get a grip on the tackle release law they will get a rude awakening come knock out rounds.

As for Georgia, they play rugby in the spirit that was intended for the sport. A few bbig name nations could take a leaf out of their book.

  23. big up russia, looking down the barrel of an 80pt loss at halftime then outplaying italy in the 2nd 40 despite a crumpling scrum. Huge games from the bears' backrow & halves combos. Particularly gutsy the tiny replacement #9. And got to admire the way the russian wings pin their ears back.

  24. if the boks or aussie can beat nz in the 1/4s ireland have a great chance to bbe world champs.....

  25. hope the Altitude Bar in queenstown sacked their bbouncer after the Tindall story. What a lowlife grasping for his 15mins of fame.

  26. yet again officiating is to the fore.
Clancy & co were obviously intimidated by the boks in the namibia game. How else could you explain the repeated off the ball infringements bby south africa that went seemingly unnoticed?

Dave Pearson had a shocker in the japan tonga game. Fighting for 3rd spot in the group to ensure qualification for the next cup and he yellow cards arlidge for offside when he was clearly onside. A big call taking a team's 1st5 off them for 10mins. Add to that the english touchjudge who flagged a tongan in the dying seconds for a shouldercharge tackle, got the wrong player, stopped a japanese attack from a quickly taken penalty for another offense allowing the tongan defence to reassemble, then top marks to pearson to going back 5m for this offence when the later offence was upfield.

Officiating is making the sport a sham.

  27. if kaplan had been more forceful on englands illegal tactics at the tackle, and georgia's kicker was on song.....england would have lost that game. People say pool D is the group of death. Joking? there are really only 2 knockout contenders...they just called it group of death because of the shits that the island teams can sometimes put up the boks. The real group of death is pool B, followed by pool C.

And while refs are busy trying to enforce the tackle area, they seem oblivious to teams kicking the ball away after being penalised. Its happening time & time again, game after game.

    ReplyDelete
  28. always said joubert was currently world's #1 ref. Still,...with today's rules it's still too tough a game to officiate. Even the best are prone to match defining decisions

  29. Hey Kiweed :) Lovely Blog buddy.

England Rugby Team have been a disgrace, i didnt expect much but we had the quality to get to the semis/final. Just too much off the field, which is so unusual in rugby.

New Zealand are surely gonna win. i mean france are playing a scrum half at fly half! and there forwards have been shit! :)

  30. gidday stevie

I dont think they were so badly behaved, its just your tabloids and their sensationalistic crap. Most kiwis criticised nz websites for posting articles from english journos because it was always mountains out of molehills. C'mon Tuilagi jumping off a ferry didnt cost you the cup. A little bit of lighthearted fun brings team closer together.
You actually had a lot of opportunity to beat the frogs and with a little bit more finishing would have won that game.
